In 1998, a strategic move was made to expand the company’s activities into the environmental field. This was largely due to;

HSP becoming aware of business opportunities in water and waste management in their marketing regions and an opportunity to forge a working relationship with one of the world’s best environmental consulting engineering companies.

The primary focus has been the management of waste.

Municipal solid waste is widely used as land fill in many Middle Eastern and Eastern European countries. This is a loss of a useful commodity and an environmentally poor way to treat it. (It can cause pollution of ground water, smoke from burning, breed disease, smell, etc.). Therefore we have been promoting cleaner management of waste with the objective of;

re-cycling metal, glass, paper and plastic.

converting waste to organic fertilizer.

being self sustaining in financial terms through the sale of fertilizer and re-cyclable items.

improving the environment and reducing public health risks.

creating job opportunities.

For many municipalities in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, the problems are understood but for economic reasons, they are unable to make a change. We have therefore, offered a complete package of financing, building and managing waste facilities. The response has been very positive and we are currently working on 6 major municipal projects which have a collective value of around $370 million.

Our environmental activities have now outstripped our traffic business and, in consequence, we have set up a separate company called HSP Project Management Ltd.
